Communication breakdown between healthcare workers leads to significant patient harm daily, worldwide. The “safety huddle” is being introduced into healthcare settings internationally as a means of addressing this problem.

The “safety huddle” is a brief 15 minute, multi-disciplinary, team meeting which has been shown to reduce harm and improve care by enhancing communication. The impact on patient care depends on how well people communicate with each other at the “safety huddle”.

We plan to devise a team training course for healthcare workers that ensures an objective standard is reached using a methodology known as proficiency-based progression.
